This is my first time reading this series and I started with Throne of Glass instead of The Assassin’s Blade. Maeve underestimates this, being Valg; she doesn’t realize that by torturing them both, she pushes them closer together, and they give each other strength.

If you’ve journeyed with Aelin and gang through the first six books, you’ll want to see the story through to the end. Aelin trained at the Assassins' Keep in Rifthold, and it was there that she spent the majority of her life following the deaths of her parents. I tend to love secondary characters more than leads, and to me, as a reader, Aelin has always been the pole around which this story rotates, but not what I read the story for.Aelin absolutely loathes slavery and unnecessary cruelty, as is evidenced when she allows her contracted targets to go free while acting as the King's Champion and when she freed the slaves at Skull's Bay with the help of Sam Cortland. Like they would get the chance to make things right, to redeem themselves and then find peace in death.
