About this deal

This is a bit of a Christmas crossover special, so if you are a fan of the DCI Logan series then some of your faves will make an appearance here too. Outnumbered, outgunned, and on unfamiliar territory, Hoon’s only chance of survival lies several hundred miles north, in a place he knows better than anyone else on Earth. Certainly during lockdown, people would feel like they were able to travel to the Highlands, so internationally that’s a big pull of the books, the romance of it all. From the opening paragraph to the closing line this is a roller-coaster of tension, humour, gore, pathos.

Again this was led by people just asking for merchandise, so I thought since I’ve been so well supported in the area, we could use this as a way of giving a bit back into the local area. When I was learning about self-publishing I joined a couple of Facebook groups, and I got involved in those. But what I’ve found is, it does really well in the Highlands, my series, because people really like reading about where they live, but internationally it also does really well too. More foul mouthed fun with disgraced former police officer and general mad bastard at large Bob Hoon.

Guest appearances by the DCI Logan team are the cherry on the top of this high intensity crime showdown.

This book was a lot of fun, we got a bit more of Bob’s sister Berta who is rude and aggressive but great with kids (weirdly enough) and of course we got all the Die Hard action of Hoon swinging around killing people and cursing and generally making a mess!

I ended up writing twelve books in that series, we did three spin-off book series and the audiobooks, but it all felt a bit ad-hoc. A larger than life bully with a penchant for bad language, Hoon was a deliberately over the top caricature—a barely human monster who existed largely to make the lives of the other characters that bit more difficult. Don’t be fooled though Hoon is (and most likely always will be) the loudest and foulest mouthed of all! As mentioned there are guest appearances from DCI Jack Logan and the team but if you are expecting them to be in the entire book as main characters they are not… they are simply guests and the main event is Hoon and the craziness that he gets up to. It was almost like a Christmas Special this one, because the cast of the Logan series are in it, it rounds off the Hoon series, it’s kind of a big explosive action-packed ending with all the characters the readers have come to love over the course of the series, with a bit of social commentary on male entitlement in there too through the villains.Barrington Stoke is an award-winning, independent publisher, and the market leader for struggling, reluctant and dyslexic readers. Like Die Hard it takes place during a single day, and what we at first think is happening is by far not the whole story. I absolutely love the characters in this series and it was great to have a little more crossover between this series and the DCI Logan one. If you haven't read this or the previous three, please give them a go, you really are in for a treat. The Hoon books were always meant to be fun, I mean they go dark at points, but it’s always been me having an absolute blast writing them.
