Endless Winter is a euro-style game that combines worker placement and deck building in an innovative way. The farther up this side you go the less resources you’ll need to score 1 point with each resource being worth 1 point at the highest level of the track.

Before you do anything else you can play culture cards from your hand to give you bonuses, resources, and cards. First, you play culture cards from your hand (there is a departure from many deckbuilding games where you have no hand limit, nor is there a requirement to play or discard all of your cards).

The puzzle of how to use your cards, workers, and resources versus how your opponents are doing it is a big part of this game. Each round, players send their tribe members to various action spaces, and pay for the actions by playing cards and spending resources. But as a game where you fight tooth and nail to survive in a hostile world against other players, it doesn’t really deliver on some of its aesthetic promises.

It is a quintessentially modern hobbyist game that has clearly seen meticulous development and playtesting, and a game where there are many pathways to victory. Over the course of the game, tribes migrate and settle new lands, establish cultural traditions, hunt paleolithic megafauna, and build everlasting megalithic structures. At the end of four rounds you’ll figure points, take final points for the various tracks, monuments, cards, and a few other places.
