About this deal

Sipped the rum is quite difficult to get down. It’s very spicy and quite grassy. With a few further sips it does get better. There is quite a lot of flavour – spicy almost ginger beer like notes alongside the banana from the nose and some strong tart citrus notes. I wouldn’t go as far as to say its unbalanced but it is certainly a little on the challenging side. An excellent homage to the spiced rum tradition of St Lucia, this expression of Chairman’s Reserve is a blend of Coffey and pot still rums aged in ex-bourbon casks and infused with local fruits and spices, such as orange peel, cinnamon and nutmeg. We’re talking Jaffa Cakes with Chairman’s’ recognisable dark chocolate note coming through, as well as Christmas cake, while all those spices give a beautiful warming finish. Alc 40% Each barrel is carefully selected to bring specific characters to our aged rum. Before being used, our barrels are first charred by igniting high-proof rum inside the barrel. After the char has been scraped, new oak tannins are exposed, which deliver the barrel’s character and the rich color we want in our aged rums.

It’s reasonably complex and its certainly a very competent and enjoyable white agricole. It could perhaps be a bit more vivid and punchy but it has enough to entertain and it becomes surprisingly addictive. Rum J.M has the exclusive benefit to use pure volcanic spring water rich in minerals sourced from the bowels of Mount Pelée. We feel this is worth mentioning as the purity of the water is a key contributor to the quality of Rum J.M. In 1914, Gustave Crassous de Médeuil bought the J.M Distillery from the family of Jean-Marie MARTIN. The Crassous de Médeuil heirs have carried on the time-honored passion and tradition of making rum J.M

Once cultivated and crushed into a juice, the sugar is added to some water and fermented for no more than five days to an alcohol content of 7.5% ABV. (The idea here is that the lower alcohol content than usual will allow more flavorful rum to be produced in the end.) A team of eight global rum experts gathered in Christopher Davis’ renowned Rhum Room in St Barth to judge a final field of 60 rums across eight categories in a blind tasting. Our team will advise you on your bespoke wine collection, whether it's a ready-to-drink cellar you're seeking, or bottles for ageing. MORE INFO It was a rematch of 2021, when the same two rum houses faced off for the title, and again Neisson came out on top, another win for Neisson, arguably the most sought-after boutique rum distillery on earth. The label is large… and normally I’d complain about that. Really, the only thing on the label is an illustrated image of the distillery and the Rhum JM trademark in big red letters, the rest of the legally required details printed on a smaller label below the first. And normally I’d be annoyed that such a huge label would prevent you from seeing the spirit inside the bottle, but the dark green glass used here already means there really isn’t much to see. Davis said this year’s support from the St Barthelemy Collectivite had proven invaluable, helping to place the event as a prominent part of the annual St Barth calendar. The Damoiseau VIP party at Les Ilets de la Plage. In the glass we have a translucent spirit which is likely to have benefited from some filtration to give it a clear appearance. Rhum JM was born in a very particular environment: thanks to the trade winds, abundant rainfall, and extremely rich volcanic soil, sugar cane grows under ideal conditions to give rise to exceptional rums. Founded in the 19th century, the distillery initially focused on sugar production before being taken over by Jean-Marie Martin, its creator, whose initials give the brand its name. Today, JM's reputation is such that these two letters make the hearts of rum enthusiasts from around the world beat faster. White, Amber, and Aged Rum: a Diverse Range for All Tastes On the nose, it’s redolent in pineapple and fresh fruit, registering as quite sweet, but with lots of greener notes (green plantains, fresh grass) as well. On the palate, it bursts with fresh citrus and pineapple juice, in a way that I can only describe as “tangy,” but then segues into intense earthiness and grassy flavors, alternating between mushroom-like earthiness and green notes. My immediate thought is that I need to get this into a daiquiri soon, just to see how intense (and probably delicious) that will be. The citrus qualities in particular seem to make this a no-brainer for simple preparations like the daiquiri or Ti’ punch.

The newer label lost all that charm in my opinion. The lettering is all mechanical (even the cursive). The artwork is much plainer. And the colors have no depth at all. It is less appealing. Distilling the juice of sugar cane gives birth to this white agricultural rum. All Rhum J.M. AOC rums are produced exclusively from sugar cane grown entirely by the family in the highlands of Bellevue. This new(ish) brand from Grenada focuses on single origin and terroir in the rum category. This particular expression is made from a sugar cane variety called Lacalome Red. Made as the name suggests on column still, this rum has that lovely sugarcane sweetness with bright tropical notes that move into a mix of orange and vanilla. Alc 50% This year’s festival was such a great event, it was an event dedicated to people who wanted to learn about rum, taste rum and cultivate themselves in the world of rum,” Lulaj said. “It was also a moment to have fun and spend a nice evening in the company of a local band with local music a nice Ti Punch in hand.” There’s a rich and heavy fruit aroma coming off the glass here, almost like a very sweet fruitcake — I’m getting some raisins, apricots, deep brown sugar, plums, figs, and a touch of vanilla for good measure. As the liquid settles, there’s a bit of the herbaceous raw sugar cane that peeks through, but it is significantly buried under everything else. It’s less of a tropical assortment than we saw in the VSOP and more of the traditional rancio profile. The biggest addition to this year’s event was the Rum Festival on the Harbor, an initiative spearheaded by Erjon Lulaj. The bottle itself looks like a traditional, antique spirits bottle — specifically, something you’d expect from a Scottish distillery. And I’m totally here for it. Most rum on the market these days is intended to be fun and quirky, but this ancient and storied expression of a very specific kind of rum has earned the right to be a little more stoic.A happy event to celebrate?
