The Grind require a fair bit of fine-tuning before they deliver what I’d consider well-balanced audio. The intrusive bass and garbled trebles of the standard profile can be remedied by adjusting the EQ in the companion app, but having to fiddle around with settings before getting satisfying sound isn’t ideal. This playlist-hopping adventure gave me plenty of opportunity to assess the full capabilities of the Grind and, for the most part, I was very impressed. The soundstage feels spacious without drifting into cavernous territory, and I found it easy enough to differentiate between various instruments in more complex compositions.

While they don't have any audiophile headphones, the variety is still quite good, especially considering their price range. For lightweight and portable headphones, the best Skullcandy wireless earbuds are the Skullcandy Push Active True Wireless. These sports-oriented headphones have an ear hook design to help keep the buds stable in your ears while you're running. They have a comfortable fit and are rated IP55 for dust and water resistance. Thanks to their bass-heavy sound profile, the extra thump, rumble, and boom added to mixes can help keep you pumped up during your workout. Their companion app has a graphic EQ and presets if you prefer a different sound. You can also access Skull-iQ in the app, a smart feature that allows you to make voice commands. The outside of each earbud bears a small Skullcandy logo, which breaks up the uniformity of the design while indicating the location of the earbuds’ controls. These are depressible buttons rather than touch-sensitive panels, so using them does push the buds against your ears, but the placement is such that doing so doesn’t force the silicone tips uncomfortably deep into your ear canals.

Grind= Truly wireless in-ears with unique features like Skull-iQ Smart Feature support and hands-free voice control. With the ear gels securely in place, these are billed as noise-isolating earbuds. That means, while they don’t emit neutralizing sound frequencies to actively counteract ambient noise, they do effectively mute the world around you. If you need to hear nearby sounds there’s no Transparency Mode (or SurroundSense or whatever marketing term manufacturers use) like you’d find in much more expensive active noise-canceling earbuds, but you can listen with just one earbud. That’s just what I did to stay alert to traffic during an evening jog and it did feel like I was cutting my listening experience in half, but the sound was still full enough to keep me motivated during the run. And in some respects, they live up to their billing. Skullcandy offers some of the most colorful headphones on the market. If you like to match your tech accessories to your outfits, they tend to have several color schemes for each model, including two or three-tone variants and camo/military color schemes.The controls allow you to perform key actions such as playing/pausing audio, answering and ending calls and adjusting volume, as well as a couple of less common commands. A one-second press and hold on the left earbud, for instance, will pull up Spotify on your phone and jump right into the last playlist you listened to.
