About this deal

I could wax lyrical for hours. With friends still in the area, they do not share my outlook. I travelled with work and left the area as a young man. They stayed and have lived with the daily grind that hardship fosters. I spoke at length with friends just this Easter.

I often wonder how long his arms were by the time he retired!

Viewed from high on the hills at the side of the reservoir it was shaped like a womans leg. This then became know in our simple minds as "The Womans Leg". I used to go in the Gardeners Arms on Taunton road too. The Don Quixote bar and that purple lighting! Even the ugly ones looked ok in that dark purple lighting!! John At its zenith, it was home to a staggering 50 cotton mills, with thousands of locals employed in the booming industry. It was the heartbeat of the town. When The Schoolhouse closed for refurbishment and re-naming I tried to get hold of those photographs, but sadly they had already been “binned”. I’m pleased to note that it is once again “The Schoolhouse” It was a privilege to have been known and loved by her. She loved helping people in her community and was known for volunteering as an appropriate adult, her charity work and loved creating hampers to make people smile.Learning to dance in 1954 at Pillings dancing school. This was above a car showroom on Katherine street. I used to enjoy the trips into Manchester on the tram when Mum used to go to the various wholesalers I used to go to Bob Dale's ballroom dancing classes. That would have been around 1956-1959 when I was 13-15 years old. I loved it there and, of course, fell in love with him! If was thrilled in later years when I saw him on TV as a judge on the original Come Dancing. The classes took place in the Alhambra Dance Hall in those days. I feel sure that we will have some friends in common, both from Moorside School and from Droylsden in general, and it should be quite exciting to try to discover them. Donkey stone- did you know that you can still buy donkey stone in Ashton Market? I have some right here! My Mum used to stone our front step and woe betide you if you stepped on it whilst it was still wet! Meg
