Nel is the owner of a houseful of animals and the organiser of the farmers' market in the picturesque Paradise Fields.

Beavers to make unlikely comeback to urban London after 400

Learn to manage beavers in the urban context including monitoring flood mitigation effects in an urban catchment There is a handsome young love interest (around a year younger than the woman as far as I can tell, which of course makes him unobtainable) who likes her, she likes him and yet she is constantly vile to him. This is because she believes that the occasion that she bumped into him whilst stalking her daughter in a night club in London (‘cos London is really small and you’re likely to bump into people you know like that, especially when neither of you actually LIVE in London) was in fact a cunning ruse to seduce her to stop her from protesting about the hospice plans as he is a solicitor for one of the interested parties. What??? The demand for beaver meat, fur and the secretion from a small gland used for perfume and pain relief meant they were hunted to the point of their disappearance in the 16th century. Conservationists hope to build on the success of other beaver reintroduction projects across the UK by using the animals’ supreme dam-building skills to protect against urban flooding, while creating diverse wetland habitats. Beavers a 'refuge for other wildlife' The next stage will be for the project to apply for a license from Natural England, and further funding will be needed to complete the project, if this license is granted.

The Friends of Horsenden Hill are excited to be involved in this first truly urban London beaver reintroduction and look forward to the day they arrive.” Another one where half stars would be handy - a 1.5 here as it's not as bad as Queen Camilla but not good enough to warrant an OK. But who can she trust to help her save Paradise Fields? Her sensible boyfriend Simon? Her friends, Sacha and Vivien? Or Jake, the devilishly handsome man who kissed her under the mistletoe... The project is a collaboration between Ealing Wildlife Group, Citizen Zoo, Friends of Horsenden Hill and Ealing Council with support from Beaver Trust. Its core objectives will be: are hoping to challenge perceptions of Londoners and demonstrate how London too, can embrace these ecosystem engineers as we strive for a healthier, wilder future in which our Capital can become a leader in urban rewilding. Which will greatly benefit not only wildlife populations but local communities too”.

Paradise Fields by Katie Fforde | Goodreads

Since then, they have been released in Forty Hall Farm, on the outskirts of north London, and in projects in Hampshire, Devon and Cumbria. One of the first projects to reintroduce beavers to the UK was in 2002 in Ham Fen, a wetland nature reserve in Kent. Water voles, for example, can use the dams and lodges beavers create to escape predators of their own. Beavers are to be introduced into urban London for the first time since they were hunted to extinction 400 years ago.Paradise Fields, promised to the hospice by her good friend Sir Gerald, is the perfect place for the farmers’ market for locals to sell their wares and to raise money and awareness of the local hospice. She is in a comfortable (safe? boring?) relationship with a local realtor, Simon. Her two sons are at university and her daughter is nearly there. She owns her own home and has her dear friend, Viv, to advise (nag?) her about her very unexciting but predictable life. Catherine Rose Gordon-Cumming was born 27 September 1952 in England, UK, the daughter of Shirley Barbara Laub and Michael Willoughby Gordon-Cumming. Her grandfather was Sir William Gordon-Cumming. Her sister is fellow writer Jane Gordon-Cumming. Katie married Desmond Fforde, cousin of the also writer Jasper Fforde. She has three children: Guy, Francis and Briony and didn't start writing until after the birth of her third child. She has previously worked both as a cleaning lady and in a health food cafe. Nel, widowed for several years, is a busy lady in her home of the Cotswolds. She moved there shortly after her husband died and it was the perfect place for raising the children and immersing herself in village life. Her passion is the children’s hospice and she devotes much of her time raising money and planning events to help those seriously ill children have a little pleasure in their lives.

Bringing Beavers Back to London! – Ealing Wildlife Group

Elliot Newton, co-founder of Citizen Zoo welcomed the beaver licence approval and funding announcement, commenting: Many people assume beavers are a wilderness species, when in fact we’ve just forgotten how closely we used to live alongside them. We’re so excited to study how beavers interact with an urban river catchment and, crucially, with urban communities. Beavers are a keystone species, manipulating habitat to create biodiverse wetlands where many other species can thrive. Their activities can help combat and adapt to impacts of climate change through carbon capture, reduce flood risk by slowing water flow in times of high rainfall and mitigate drought by holding more water on the land.” Published since 1995, her romance novels are set in modern-day England. She is the founder of the "Katie Fforde Bursary" for writers who have yet to secure a publishing contract. Katie was elected the twenty-fifteenth Chairman (2009-2011) of the Romantic Novelists' Association. She is delighted to have been chosen as Chair of the Romantic Novelists' Association and says, "Catherine Jones was a wonderful chair and she's a very tough act to follow. However, I've been a member of the RNA for more years than I can actually remember and will have its very best interests at the core of everything I do." Is she ready to take a chance on love? A wonderfully romantic novel from the Sunday Times No 1 bestselling author of A Springtime Affair and A Wedding in the Country.

It would also be used by experts to study the animals, and learn how to manage beavers in such an environment, with focus on monitoring effects on water and flood levels. My first Katie Fforde book and my overall feeling towards it is that it is SO dull. The main character is about 42 as far as I can tell but seems to have the characteristics of an 80 year old e.g. she is too old to send a text message and at one point is resigning herself to a life of solitude with her grandchildren who haven't even been born yet(???). If I behave like that in the next 5 years or so someone please tell me to get my act together and stop behaving like a pensioner.
