Though you can't tell from the outside, the fifth-gen Echo Dot has one more big surprise up its sleeve; it doubles as a mesh node for an existing Eero Wi-Fi network. Apart from the lack of an LED display, the Echo Dot (5th Gen) is identical to the Echo Dot With Clock, and we expect similar performance. The newer Echo Dot with Clock is a bit more sophisticated and less hollow-sounding, which seems like a great feat for something shaped like a ball.

A set of physical controls sit on the top of the Echo Dot with Clock, including an action button that wakes Alexa, volume controls and a mute button if you’d prefer Alexa didn’t listen.
