About this deal

I distinctly remember, nine years ago, being asked if I would ever think of writing a sequel to Chocolat. The word Anouk keeps using is “fabulous” – which of course means “from a fairytale” – and her name comes from the French “sosie”, the word for “double” or “mirror image” – kind of appropriate, I thought, as she is the personification of Vianne’s dark side. As the plot develops, it becomes clear that there is more to Zozie than meets the eye, and thus follows a tantalising tale of good against evil.

Then an exotic stranger, Vianne Rocher, blows in on the changing wind with her young daughter, and opens a chocolate boutique directly opposite the church. He is very much in love with Yanne (Vianne), viewing her as a sort of Cinderella, but he knows nothing of her true identity. The image of the chocolate that represents love, doesn’t appear to have a strong direct link to the rest of the symbolism throughout the novel, which leaves a sense of disconnect. Again, I can't give more details without spoilers, but trust me, there were a few times when I said to myself 'Wait, I thought THIS was the way things were in that village at the end, not THAT'.

In Love Is Not Enough, Mark’s first Audible Original, you’ll follow five real people over the course of six months as they navigate f--ked up romantic situations, ranging from dating app addiction to marital affairs to absurd fantasies. Its long-awaited sequel, The Lollipop Shoes, presses yet more buttons in the shape of a pair or red velvet slingbacks. It's five years on, and Vianne Rocher and her two daughters, Anouk and Rosette, have moved into a flat above a chocolaterie in Montmartre. She is unusual among Harris' characters in that her motives are never made entirely clear - she remains a mystery until the end. is a reference to Ometochtli, the Aztec god of drunkenness, and leader of the four hundred rabbit gods of drunkenness (which was the amusing Aztec way of referring to units of alcohol). Then a glow began to clear away some of the tarnish and haze and allowed a sparkle to shine here and there.
