About this deal

It’s not very similar to Patchwork but isn’t completely different. You’re still playing a tile drafting game but there’s no spacial/shape element to it at all. I think there’s actually a lot more to think about and find Calico a “harder” or at least “more thinky” game. It can also go up to four players so different in that way, too. NB: for added competition, we tend to select 3 at random and then have everybody place the same ones in the same slots on their own boards). To set up Calico, give each person a player board and the matching colored goal tiles. There are 6 different goal tiles which give Calico some in-game scoring variety. The rules suggest that for your first game players each use the AAA-BBB, AA-BB-CC, and ≠ goal tiles, placing them in the same location on each board. Speaking of the player boards, this is where the action unfolds as you construct your patchwork duvet for the cats to moult on! Before the game starts you will choose or randomly draw three scoring tiles. These will reward you for specific combinations of tiles adjacent to them at the end of the game.

In Quilts & Cats of Calico, based on the board game Calico, you will be immersed in a warm, cozy world full of cuddly cats. Here the quilt bends under the weight of their paws and loud purring can be heard. It's a world full of patterns and designs awaiting the master quilt maker. A game for 1 – 4 players, Calico is very simple to set up. In a normal multiplayer game, each player receives a unique colour coded player board (quilt) and a corresponding set of six goal tiles, four of which are chosen at random. Out of those four, three are then placed on the marked spaces and form a player’s personal objectives for the game. Nocturne is a puzzly spatial bidding and set collection game set in a whimsical moonlit forest illustrated by Beth Sobel! Point Saladis a fast and fun card drafting game for the whole family. There are over 100 ways to score points. Players may use a variety of strategies and every game of Point Saladis unique!Design goal tiles contain long-term goals that could score points at the end of the round, though this depends on the six patch tiles surrounding it. As your turns pass, you’ll be building your quilt in the same way as in multiplayer mode – having one eye on achieving colour based button and pattern connected cat bonuses, and the other on achieving the design goal tiles! Thankfully with nobody else playing, you won’t need a third eye to factor in hate-drafting opportunities! Solo Good Turns are simple. Select a single patch tile from your hand and sew it into your quilt, then draw another patch into your hand from the three available. If you are able to create a color group, you may sew a button onto your quilt. If you are able to create a pattern combination that is attractive to any of the cats, it will come over and curl up on your quilt! At the end of the game, you score points for buttons, cats, and how well you were able to complete your unique quilt pattern. In this tile-laying quilt-and-cat-themed board game, you score points by making groups of connected colors and patterns with the aim of attracting cats to your cozy creation.

The lower blue points just need colour or pattern. So in the AA-BB-CC example, so long as you have e.g. 2 blue + 2 yellow + 2 green patches or 2 stripes + 2 spots + 2 ferns, you’ll have achieved that objective and will score 7 points at end game! Button It, Kitty The small button and corresponding cat tokens are placed within easy reach and each player takes two coloured patch tiles from the communal bag into their hand. Finally, three more patch tiles are removed from the bag and placed in the central area between the boards to make up the draw pile. And that’s it; it’s sewing time! placing a tile from your hand onto any empty space on your quilt board (there’s no adjacency rule here); and then The setup of the forest grid and twilight and moonlight goals along with concoction cards and special player abilities in each game provide great variability so that no two games of Nocturne will play out the same. Different spatial goals and situations will necessitate different strategies and tactics to outwit your opponents in this highly interactive and unique spatial bidding game! Reveal three patch tiles to form the tile market. This should be positioned in the center of the table. The player will encounter many animals in the world of Calico. Once befriended, you can name them, add them to your party, or send them to their new home at the café. Animals in your party will follow you everywhere you go and listen to your commands. The animals in your café will relax and play with any customers that pop in for a visit. The game ends when the last player has placed their final tile. Then it’s time to score. And, in case you forget which features give you points, there’s a cute little score pad inside to help you tot up your totals for Design goals, cats, and buttons! In the game, you can also enjoy the story mode campaign. An extraordinary world inspired by the works of Studio Ghibli awaits you. Here cats have great power and influence over people's lives. Take on the role of an itinerant quilter who decides to succeed in a city of cat-worshippers. Climb to the top of the city hierarchy and face the opponent who wants to dominate the world of humans and cats. Create quilts, perfect your craft, and help those you meet on your journey. Don't worry, you won't be alone - along the way, you'll meet friends and, most importantly, cats whose help can prove invaluable… S0, start by giving each player a unique colour coded player board (quilt) and corresponding set of six design goal tiles. Pop the cat tokens and button tokens within easy reach. Everybody then chooses 4 of the tiles at random and then further narrow this down to 3. Those get placed on the slots on their board (wherever they like) and the others are returned to the box. I’ve been trying to work out what it is about these simple-ruleset/formidable gameplay games that I like so much, and the main thing I can come up with is that no matter how well or badly I do, it will never be because of a rules mistake. I might have to try and hold a lot of different bits of information in my head, but I’ll never misinterpret some card and end up with fewer resources than what I was counting on. Whether I do well in a game of Calico or badly, it feels like that will always be because of the choices I made with the tiles that were available.
