About this deal

His physiognomy resembled the person who was described accompanying some victims before their murders; above all, age and height match.

Barnett also used to read the press reports to his "partner", and she frequently asked him if police had captured the perpetrator. Even though contemporary investigators did not suspect this individual to be guilty of murder, in more recent times he has been accused of being the sordid killer by more than one scholar. This book presents all of the information and allows the reader to make up their own mind regarding who Jack might have actually been.

Some witnesses apparently confirmed Barnett's claims, having seen the couple drinking in a tavern in the company of Julia Venturney, another resident of Miller's Court. Forced to accept a definitive rejection by Kelly, and taken over by uncontrollable jealousy and rage, he proceeded to kill her as well. Part II 1973-1975 includes attempts to consolidate the case against Druitt and demolish that against the Duke of Clarence. The authentic documents include: A police notice issued on 30 September 1888 asking for information on the first three murders; Chief Inspector Swanson's report on the murder of Elizabeth Stride; the 'Dear Boss' letter - the first letter purporting to be from the Whitechapel murderer using the name 'Jack the Ripper'; Sir Melville Macnaghten's report identifying the three main suspects. After that statement, Barnett supplied to the justice most of the little information known about Kelly's life.FLATSIGNED NOT ONLY BY RICHARD WHITTINGTON-EGAN, but also by THOMAS TOUGHILL author of 'The Ripper Code' pub. Not only does it cover the crimes but gives a background on the people involved including the victims, the potential suspects and society at the time the crimes were committed. A thorough analysis of the likely suspects for the identity of "Jack the Ripper" is undergone, including some figures that have only recently been implicated in the murders. This book is a great little reference for people who know little about Jack the Ripper all the way through those who are familiar with it. He has also written extensively on haunted Britain and Ireland, as well as on the myths, legends and folklore of the British Isles.

The pull out documents were neat however some were very hard to read so it would have been nice if it came with typed version as well so I would get the full effect of the documents. In two parts : Part I 1888-1972 which features views expressed and material published, including the memoirs of officials and police officers etc. The Barnetts already had a son before they moved to Whitechapel, Denis, and went on to have three other children (excluding Joseph) - Daniel (b. He was 30 years old in 1888 and had worked as a fish porter at the Billinsgate Fish Market in London's East End, though he had reportedly been fired earlier in the year, which may have been why Kelly had resorted to prostitution. After Annie Chapman's death, an envelope that belonged to Barnett was found in the courtyard of Hanbury Street, who could have lost it when he committed the murder.I can imagine Richard Jones pointing a member of his tour group over to this book or trying to sell it to them at the end of one of his excellent tours. He has written 16 books, many of which have been published worldwide, and makes frequent television appearances. But the mystery is deepened by a letter sent "From Hell" to Scotland Yard, accompanied by half of a preserved human kidney.

What amateur sleuths will find most fascinating here are the many facsimiles of contemporary documents, including letters allegedly sent by Jack the Ripper to police and elsewhere, police reports, press articles, and personal correspondence. Copies of original documents combined with an easy to read breakdown of the Whitechapel murders events and gloss pictures makes this a very enjoyable, all be it disturbing read. According to contemporary news, Barnett repeated his last words spoken by his interlocutor at his interrogation. It is unbiased, though the way it is set out makes it feel as if the murders have been trivialised a little for entertainment purposes. He would have kept the key to the room he shared with Kelly and, after completing the homicide, went out and locked the door using that key, which had not been lost, as he falsely claimed. This book gives a good broad overview of the victims of Jack the Ripper as well as key witnesses and the suspects.
