A traditional cat flap presents a number of problems including allowing other cats to freely enter your home and they make it impossible to place restrictions on your cat’s comings and goings.

What this means is that you can program this cat flap to respond differently to different pets. For example, if you have a couple of cats and one of them is due to go to the vets on a particular day you can set up this cat flap so that the cat which is due to go to the vets won’t be allowed out while your other cat will be. By default the Pet Porte will alert you of their movements by making a soft “beep” when a cat enters or leaves.Featuring everything you would expect of a microchip cat flap including 15, 10 and 9 digit pin and RFID tag compatibility, this cat flap has it all. Press both buttons together. The cat flap is now in test mode. The red light will flash when it detects a microchip, and the green light will flash when it recognises your cat's microchip. Please avoid the Biotherm temperature chip as it does not work with the microchip cat flap. If your cat has a Biotherm chip we would recommend sewing a Bayer Tracer Advance chip into a collar and putting it on your cat to allow your cat to use the Pet Porte microchip cat flap.

Pet Porte Smart Flap has a 16cm x 16cm door making it a great size for most cats of up to 7kg in weight to easily get through. This includes big domestic cats including the Norwegian Forest Cat and Maine Coons.Cat flaps vary from model to model, while they typically don’t get much bigger than 250mm wide, it is worth paying attention to the size if you have a very large cat or you wish to use the cat flap for a small dog. Is Your Cat Micro-chipped and is your Microchip Compatible with your Cat Flap?

If your cat has an old style 10 digit microchip that was fitted many years ago it will not work with the Pet Porte range of microchip cat flaps so you have two options. Either you can sew a new Bayer Tracer Advance chip into a cat collar – or you could find a vet who would be willing to re-chip your cat with a new Bayer Tracer Advance chip which would take over from the old 10 digit microchip. We only recommend Bayer Tracer Advance chips for that purpose. Some vets will not re-chip cats unless there are exceptional circumstances such as other cats coming in and causing your cat distress. What are the options for AC power and battery power?This Petsafe Cat Flap works in much the same way as the Sureflap, however it has a marginally larger cat flap opening of 146mm x 135mm and can accommodate cats of up to 8kg in weight. Of course if you are happy for your cats to come and go as they please day and night you can leave the cat flap in normal mode. If you only have a couple of cats using it you can expect the batteries to last for as long as 12 months. This is a particularly useful feature too for households where you may also use this cat flap for a small dog that you may not wish to have the same level of freedom as your cat. It is also good for households with young ‘teenage’ cats which you may be looking to slowly introduce to the outside world, but you want to limit their outdoor time until they are a bit older.
