About this deal

He has become the author known for writing novels with gruesome deaths, twisty plots, and laugh-out-loud humor. He is one of the very few authors from Scotland to ever make the shortlist for the Kindle Storyteller prize. Don’t be fooled though Hoon is (and most likely always will be) the loudest and foulest mouthed of all!! With so much potential for bloodshed, the police gathering outside the centre can only wait, watch, and try to negotiate with the terrorists within. I said before that the character of Hoon is over the top. He exemplifies the stereotypes taken to an extreme. But in this story we see even more of his redeeming characteristics. We see the intelligence that led Hoon to rise to the rank of Detective Chief Inspector. We also see that he is willing to sacrifice for others. And even though he has a past filled with mistakes, he will do what is right. This story has no preface or afterward by Kirk, but Kirk in the afterword of the first Hoon novel informed us that: But my son said ‘You can’t NOT have a fourth one. You can’t leave it at three points of the compass!’

For those that don’t mind it or do find it amusing then dive in… I recommend reading the other four books in the series but you don’t have to you could read this as a standalone but perhaps some of the references and characters will go over your head… but there is plenty of action and fun and wild stuff going on to keep you occupied if you just want to dive in at the end. The girl had been taken by a group that goes by the name “The Loop.” They are a heartless cabal that usually kidnaps girls and makes them addicts before forcing them into prostitution. After being repeatedly beaten, shot at, blown-up, and tortured, Hoon is looking forward to spending a quiet Christmas drinking heavily in front of the TV, while pointedly ignoring the older sister who has invaded his home. Again if you do not like swearing then by now you should know that these books wont be for you but if you have started here then be warned the language is flying and if the F’s, and S’s and even the C’s offend then please don’t read this one you wont like it. Even though it is hilarious and is intended that way if you aren’t amused by bad language then this absolutely wont be for you!!! I got a behind the scenes tour – they let me into all the areas people don’t get to see generally. I was counting all the cameras and all that stuff. So if you ever need to hold the Eastgate Centre hostage, I’m your man! I’ve got all the inside info now.”

In seeking to achieve his detective investigation goals he uses all manner of techniques including violence and manipulation. He is also very persistent in his endeavors and will never leave any stone unturned in his work.

And his childhood visits from Fort William to the Eastgate Centre at Christmas time have also played their part. What’s also interesting is I have something called aphantasia, which means I have no mental pictures, I think in words. But the number of people who say, ‘Oh, wow, it was just like being there’, and I always found that fascinating just how that works, because when I read a book, quite often when there are paragraphs and paragraphs describing a scene, I’ll almost gloss over that because it’s doing me no favours. It’s like, I get it, you’re in a room! I want the dialogue and the action and the story. But a lot of people like that lingering in a place and establishing the scene, so it fascinates me how different readers respond to different ways of writing. People stop me sometimes. It’s lovely but I’m really bad at taking compliments, I think it’s a Scottish thing – we’re so used to taking the piss out of each other. When someone offers you a sincere compliment, you don’t know what to do! It’s Christmas time in Inverness Scotland and sh*t is about to get real!!! By way of synopsis J.D. Kirk provided a summary saying:
