With THE INVITATION, Vi Keeland pens a thoughtful, fun, and touching novel with sassy banter, and delectable slow burn chemistry. All the characters have been affected by the war in different ways which was fascinating to read about, particularly as in their histories is mentioned a part of the war that i didn’t know much about. Raised in a small community in Northern Ontario, Oriah’s family encouraged her to bring her questions and explorations to the Christian tradition they espoused. Welp, if you’re Stella Bardot, that’s exactly what you do—and it just goes on a crazy rollercoaster ride from there! This book has great potential: mostly interesting characters, a fascinating era, wonderful settings, and two storylines that weave together well.

Lucy Foley’s book reminded me so much of another that affected me hugely as a teenager, Lawrence Durrell’s Justine, which some sixty years ago introduced my boyish imagination to a fictional world of incredible sophistication. I need to stop choosing historical fiction and expecting it to read like fiction from a historical period. The two women intend to kill him for tricking Evie and being complicit in the murders committed by the vampires.
